Default Quizzing Goals

So. What are your quizzing goals before you finish your quizzing career?

Mine:

1. Draw ever closer to God through the Scriptures I memorize
2. Win the National Championship!! Woo!! Yeah, baby! _^_^_b
3. Get #1 in the Nation individually
4. Make more quizzing friends.

I think I have a good possibility of achieving 1.

I would LOVE to win the National Championship. Even more than getting #1.

I think (sadly) I would be disappointed if I did not get #1. I sometimes think that I don't deserve it. That I'm not a good enough person. But, really I don't think that's the point. I have certainly worked hard enough the past few years (so have others, though). I would be disappointed, but I pray for humility and contentment no matter what.

And making more friends is always an awesome thing.

Before I finish my quizzing career? That would be a looong time seeing as I'm gonna' be a quiz master/coach as long as God allows me to. Before I graduate is the target question I assume. Well obviously I want to be able to use what I memorize to bring myself and others closer to God. But from purely the quizzing perspective, and for specific personal goals I've got three.
In order of importance:
1. Make stage at nationals.
2. Get on Revelation.
3. Memorize all the material at least once. (That gives me... next year.)

Even though making stage (personally) is my #1 goal, I'll be perfectly happy if I make Revelation but don't get on stage, partly because making stage is somewhat improbable although not impossible. Conversely I'll be happy if I get on stage but don't make Revelation. But if I graduate without doing either? I'll be mad.

No, I meant quizzing career. When you aren't actually a 'quizzer', your quizzing career, to me, is kinda over (not really, but you know what I mean). I worded it that way, because I have already graduated.

Well, yeah. My 'goal' (want) of winning the championship seems improbable (though not impossible!), but I really feel like I have a chance at #1. I won't be mad if neither happen, but I will be disappointed. I just hope that, if I don't place high, it will be because others worked harder than I, not because I just totally bombed...

Ditto on numbers 1 and 4 (okay, numbers 2 and 3 as well but those aren't as important )

number 2 doesn't apply to me

my own would be

1. Ditto to Garth's
2. and bring other people closer to God as well by helping them with their studying
3. Keep my focus on pleasing God and helping my team
4. But averaging about the top 14 at least would make me happy

4. How about averaging top 7?

Well yes, I admit I'd prefer top 7 but I'd be more than satisfied with 14

I, sadly, would not. But I am so terribly selfish, aren't I?

Honestly, I didn't care if I made the all-star team if I could win the championship. I'd trade every one of my all-star trophies to have stage team-trophies in their place. Once you do it, you'll know what I mean.

Nothing compares to the joy of learning the Word of God. Sounds corny, but it's true. I just love TEACHING kids and learning verses with them. It's always thrilling.

I think that is about what I would feel as well, then there are people really sharing in your joy

I agree, though for me it's easier to feel that when the people I'm teaching know it well

I would rather be on a team which one the national championship than make stage or the all star team I think. (But I'm pretty sure I'd rather get 1st personally than 1st team.) It's just that that's so improbable in my situation that it's not even one of my goals, just like making 1st personally isn't one of my goals. This year I'm sure I can't make Revelation, although I do think this year they'll have the best chance at stage they've had in a long time. And Next year even if I make Revelation, we won't be a very good team because so many of our top quizzers will have graduated.

So a couple years ago Jim C. gave a challenge for people to set lifetime goals for how much of the new testament they were going to try to memorize. Either all of the New Testament, 3/4 of it, 1/2 of it, 1/4 of it, 1 book, or 1 chapter. He had people put their goals and their emails on slips of paper, but then all the slips got misplaced, so he didn't know who has signed up. This last nationals he reannounced it, and he said to email him. There's kinda' a "group" of people who have set goals now, and it's still open to anyone; Not just quizzers. If anybody's interested in doing it just PM me and I'll give you Jim's email. I don't want to put it up here.

I once would not have thought this, because my teams have never had even a remote chance of making stage, let alone winning it.

But then... I saw Clay last year. They were so ecstatic when they won. Against all odds, they came together and won. It was incredible. Yes, I would rather not have any personal trophies if I could share in that.

Exactly! That's why I put that goal higher on my list that #1 personally. But I will not lie. I would still love to be #1. I would just much rather win the Championship than get that award.

I have technically already memorized 1/4 I'm pretty sure but I'm not saying I know it now

Haha! Yeah, if you've quizzed for several years, you're already well on your way.

Another reason to sign up! You can set the goal for past perfect or present perfect.

So then why don't I have a PM saying you want Jim's email?
